From Past to Future: Spatial Revitalization of Public Spaces in Radovish from-past-to-future-spatial-revitalization-of-public-spaces-in-radovish Volume 3, Issue 1 ARTICLES 2026 3 The research aims to examine the revitalization of the Historical Urban Area (HUA) in the town of Radovish, a small town in the southeastern part of North Macedonia known for its urban and cultural heritage. Particular attention is given to the revitalization of the old bazaar area, which has played a significant role as a link between the city park and the town’s main square. The area is currently facing various challenges, such as reduced pedestrian activity, deteriorating infrastructure, and the presence of unused commercial spaces. The research is based on a three-phase methodology. The first phase consists of an empirical analysis based on relevant literature. The second phase focuses on the implementation of the research through the use of photographs, spatial analysis, and an evaluation of the current situation. The third phase involves the development of a conceptual design proposal for the revitalization of the area. The research is grounded in placemaking principles that consider the spatial, social, and programmatic aspects of the area. It proposes the revitalization of the old bazaar area in order to enhance its functionality and attractiveness. The proposal is based on the creation of a pedestrian corridor connecting the bazaar area with the city park. It also includes the activation of unused commercial spaces within the area. The revitalization of the area is expected to improve its sustainability in accordance with the principles of contemporary urban planning.
